Some of the best travel experiences are due to pure chance and good luck. We had one of those amazing moments when we visited Edinburgh Castle on November 14th which just happened to be the birthday of Prince Charles. The castle regiment was decked out in their most elaborate uniforms and the military band was stunning in their tartans, kilts and plumed hats, sporting elaborate insignia and carrying shiny brass instruments.
After the smoke and booms of the 21 gun salute had finally faded, staff in hand, the drum major led the marching band out through the castle gates and onto the hilltop castle parade field where we watched intricate marching band maneuvers to rousing music with a view of the old city of Edinburgh spread out below. I must say, we really enjoyed the prince's birthday party. Too bad he wasn't there to see it. But we made this photo-montage video so you can see it!
