Saturday.........after a week of non-stop rainstorms........
We just had to get out and take a drive through the neighborhood. Which in our neck of the woods means a drive through beautiful rolling farmland. But first we had to stop at our old-timey general store for some oh-so-fattening but yummy ice cream cones!
With our human tanks filled up with sugar, we headed out. The weather....... humid and heavy, waiting for the next thunderstorm but lifted occasionally with the faint breath of a light sweet breeze scented with grasses and cow paddies.
We have plenty of sagging, dying, barns dotting the countryside, looking like they are ready to tumble to the ground, but amazingly, many are actually still being used by the old farmers that own them. Some of these farms have been owned for generations by the same family.
And then there are the cows........ bovine cuties!
Eventually as always, we had to cross the river..... The Nolichucky River...... Sometimes ferocious, rolling and crashing, but today calm and serene, floating by with barely a ripple.
Of course we had to stop at the produce stand. Fat juicy vegetables and fruits can be found everywhere this time of year! Again, the heavy moist air is scented, but this time with sweet fruit nechtars.
Loaded up with fresh produce, we finally headed back home. But in East Tennessee you never know what you will find around the next corner and we found this........
